Tasting Notes
Montecillo’s Rioja Crianza is bright cherry red with blueish highlights. It has a vibrant, thoroughly fresh nose, full of ripe red fruits with hints of warm patisserie and a subtle touch of anise. On the palate there is lots of red fruit, typical of tempranillo, alongside balanced acidity and the body of garnacha.
Food Pairing
This bright and refined Rioja Crianza would pair well with or spaghetti alla puttanesca or a herby chicken and mushroom pie.
Winemaking
Montecillo’s Rioja Crianza is aged for 18 months in American oak.
The tempranillo grapes come entirety from vineyards in the Rioja Alta, in towns with long winemaking traditions, namely Fuenmayor, Cenicero, Baños de Ebro, Sajazarra, Cuzcurrita and Arenzana. The garnacha grapes are picked in vineyards in Pradejón, in the Rioja Oriental area.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
We have been crafting Rioja for well over 150 years. Established in 1870, our winery was the first in the town of Fuenmayor, and is the third oldest in all of Rioja. Our winemaking philosophy remains untouched, crafting contemporary wines that stay true to their classic roots.
