Tasting Notes

Montecillo Gran Reserva Rioja is full of flavour and elegantly complex.

Made only in the very best vintages, this Gran Reserva is extraordinarily complex and expressive, and brims with different nuances. The texture is subtle and silky, with polished, velvety tannins and notes of resin and candied fruit.

Aromas of black cherry and butterscotch set the stage for further black cherry, pomegranate, caramel and coffee-bean flavors with a hint of cured bacon. Plush tannins build in volume and slowly drop away to showcase a violet-strewn finish.

Food Pairing

This exquisite Gran Reserva deserves something special alongside, such as venison fillet.

Winemaking

Montecillo’s Rioja Gran Reserva comes from plots of bush-trained vines on poor, sandy textured soils in the Rioja Alta area. The vines are Tempranillo and Graciano  an average of more than 35 years old and low yields. Ageing takes place in French and American oak barrels (90%-10%) over 28 months, followed by subsequent bottle conditioning for at least 4 years until it is leaves the winery.
