The Lycaon ‘Heritage’ is a beautiful, elegant and rich wine, with aromas and flavours of citrus, and ripe peaches. On the palate crisp acidity is balanced by a creamy and slightly waxy texture, with layers of fruit, and straw providing depth and intensity. The wine has a long, soft and rewarding finish.

Grapes were harvested from a certified single vineyard of unirrigated 49- yea rold heritage vines in the “horse shoe” just above the town of Wellington. The vines grow in Glen rosa soil, a well-drained decomposed granite soil, yellow brown in colour. The vineyard is a certified heritage vineyard under South Africa’s Old Vine Project, designed to preserve the surviving old vineyards of South Africa.

Lycaon comes from the scientific name for an African wild dog, Lycaon Pictus, and is derived from the Greek word Lycos for a wolf. The label illustration is from a page in an 19th century book on hunting in South Africa, a time when painted wolves were common throughout the region.
