The Grenache by Rocca Maura is made with grapes selected from their best Grenache plots and harvested at full maturity. The nose is crushed strawberry, and the mouthfeel is round and fresh. The finish is supple and long, bursting with red currants and other red fruits.

 

A single varietal wine made using thermo-regulated fermentation, followed by a three week maceration with regular pumping over. Aged in tanks with light filtration before bottling.

 

This still red wine is made with Grenache grapes from the Rhône region in the South of France.

THE REGION

The Rhône wine region  in Southern France is situated in the Rhône valley and produces numerous wines under various Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) designations. The region’s major appellation in production volume is Côtes du Rhône AOC.

The Rhône is generally divided into two sub-regions with distinct vinicultural traditions, the Northern Rhône (referred to in French as Rhône septentrional) and the Southern Rhône (in French Rhône méridional). The northern sub-region produces red wines from the Syrah grape, sometimes blended with up to 20% of white wine grapes, and white wines from Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier grapes. The southern sub-region produces an array of red, white and rosé wines, often blends of several grapes such as in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Rocca Maura: Les Vignerons de Roquemaure has over a century of winemaking history.

 

The privileged geographical location of Roquemaure , on the right bank of the Rhône river, contributed greatly to its economic development. Since the middle ages, wines from Côte du Rhône were shipped all around France from Roquemaure’s port. Rocca Maura winery was founded in 1922, and they still use largely traditional methods today.

 

Since 1922, generations of winegrowers have been constantly working hand in hand to develop their cooperative cellar. Today, 60 winegrowers from villages around Roquemaure work together on 400 hectares of vines to produce top quality grapes, focusing on sustainability, quality, and passion.

 

Only ripe grapes produce quality wines. This is why each year before harvest, a technician proceeds to a precise plot selection of their whole vineyard. Each block is harvested at the optimal time, and only the oldest and highest quality grapes are selected to make their most prestigious blends.
